There is Something Very Special About a Rescue Dog
Our first rescue was a Weimaraner called Gilbert. When we first met him he was 12 and 1/2 and his owner had died some months previously. Relatives had looked after him but were struggling as he was used to being with his owner all day. We work from home, and had a young male Weim so thought about it overnight and went back the next day to pick him up. This is a photo of Gil the day after we collected him:

Gil had not been having much exercise and had muscle wastage, his chest crackled when he did walk and he was pacing around unhappy for most of this first week. Visits to the vet and things not looking good. Hydrotherapy, constant companionship and up to 8 short walks a day for the first 6 weeks followed by 12 weeks of physiotherapy and this is how he looked within 4 months:

Gil would run around with our young lad, had use of a paddock which he would pull to get to and all crackles in his chest, caused by lack of exercise and lung fluid cleared. He lived with us until he was 15 years and 4 months when it was time for him to leave us, leaving a forever Gil shaped paw print on all our hearts. He was a big loving riot of a dog, up to all sorts and a very good teacher of all things naughty to our young Weim lad.
Consider a rescue dog, they are special and add so much to your life.
